“Cul de Sac” wine bar
Historical Roman wine bar, opened, in its current form, in 1977 but seat since the early 1900’s of an old “wines and oils”, with a beautiful marble counter as a testimony of that time. It started in Rome the phenomenon of wine bars, offering gastronomic specialties and a wide selection of wines (1500 labels present every day) with an annual turnover of 2800 wines.
It is situated in Piazza Pasquino, a historic square which houses one of the two “talking” statues of Rome.
The bar is long and narrow, hence the name “Cul de Sac”, with a series of wooden benches overhung by fisherman nets, which make the bar atmosphere similar to the third class train cars of the 1960’s.
The service is fast and efficient, and the waiters are moreover very kind and dedicated, they are of great help for a shrewd choice of wines to match with the food.
Heated outdoor tables.
Wine and Food
The impressive wine list, divided into the various regions of origin, provides, for the neophytes, some information about the characteristics of the main wines (production area, grape varieties which make them up, main organoleptic characteristics).
Gastronomic specialties are handmade and characterized by an offer of courses which betrays the partners’ multiethnic origin (French, Egyptian, Armenian, Italian, Roman and Calabrian).
It’s particularly recommended the “Topik” (little bundle of chickpeas and potatoes with raisin and pine nuts), the Babaghannush (eggplant purée with sesame), Trippa alla Romana, Coda alla vaccinara, the meatballs with wine and purée.
It’s also recommended the onion soup, the red lentils cream, the cod’s brandade, and the exceptional homemade pâtés, as well as the excellent handmade lasagna. Refined is the selection of cured meats and cheeses from various Italy’s regions.
